Rural broadband

GreySky is based in rural Northumberland - one of the  most challenging places in the UK for the rollout of broadband services.  We are actively developing projects to deliver broadband to the remote rural areas of Northumberland.

Current projects

The availability and effective use of broadband connectivity is a critical driver in the growth of the UK economy.  GreySky is supporting the development of broadband projects across the UK - in cities and remote rural areas.

BDUK

Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) has £530 million of funding for broadband projects across the UK - focusing on rural areas.  But accessing the funding is complex.  GreySky is supporting Stratford on Avon District Council in support of their bid with Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull.

State Aid

Broadband projects are too often disrupted by the problems of state aid.  GreySky are supporting projects in Northumberland and Sunderland to address the problems of state aid - whether avoiding state aid, or gaining EU approval.

A Detailed View

Delivering the next generation of broadband networks will be one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken.  One size simply wont fit all.  Delivering the individual projects that combine to create the final network demands a detailed understanding of the issues and practical experience of delivering results.

GreySky is actively involved in supporting the practical delivery of next generation broadband projects.  We bring a full range of expertise to support the projects - whether that’s accessing funding, managing procurement, resolving state aid issues or understanding technical options.

Delivering the Next Generation

“…Our goal is simple: within this parliament we want Britain to have the best superfast broadband network in Europe.”

Jeremy Hunt,

Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The UK Government is focused on ensuring the development of superfast broadband networks.  BDUK has been created to oversee the allocation of £830 million in funding, and more funding is available through DEFRA and elsewhere.  But there’s more to delivering the next generation than accessing the funding.  Creating a viable network for now and for the future is far more complex, and making it happen needs determination and experience.
